| Detailed information |
Harpagophytum is native to Southern Africa (Namibia) and its fruit is hard and covered in claw-like protuberances. When these claws become embedded in the hooves of cattle, the cattle start to dance around in a frenzied fashion, hence the name “Devil’s claw”.
However, it is the roots of the plant that divide into a large number of secondary tubers that are used for therapeutic purposes. Traditionally, African healers cut them into slices, left them to dry and then reduced them to a powder. They recommended their use for the relief of joint pain.
Harpagophytum contains many active constituents, such as glucosides (harpagide, harpagoside, procumbide), some of which have been recognised due to their anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and analgesic effects. It also contains flavonoids (kaempferol, luteolin) with anti-oxidant properties and phytosterols (sitosterol, stigmasterol) that are able to boost the anti-inflammatory action of harpagoside and phenols (chlorogenic acid and cinnamic acid).
Chlorogenic acid, which is responsible for the plant’s bitter taste, has diuretic properties. As for cinnamic acid, it has analgesic properties.
The plant also contains mineral salts (calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, potassium, iron, copper, silicium) and vitamins (beta-carotene, B1, B2, B3, B5, B9, B12, C).
Harpagophytum is indicated in the treatment of pain associated with rheumatism and arthrosis and, more broadly, with all joint pain, such as arthritis and tendonitis. Harpagophytum is also indicated in the treatment of lumbar pain (lumbago) and, more generally, backache. Harpagophytum can therefore help prevent excessive consumption of anti-inflammatories and thus the side effects associated with them (stomach complaints).
Reputed to improve general mobility, and consequently, as it were “loosen up” the joints, harpagophytum can also be used by sportsmen and women to aid recovery after periods of training.
Finally, harpagophytum stimulates the digestion and the liver, and promotes the elimination of uric acid involved in certain inflammatory processes (episodes of gout).
This basic treatment is not a remedy to be used only when symptoms start to occur; it is advisable to take it for at least two months in order to benefit from the full effects. |

PRINCIPAL INDICATIONS:
Rheumatism, arthrosis, inflammations, lumbar arthritis, diuresis problems, tendonitis, digestive disorders, liver disorders
DIRECTIONS:
2 to 4 capsules a day to be taken with meals and as advised by your doctor. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
WARNINGS:
For adult use only. Excess consumption may cause diarrhoea. Possible interaction with some anti-coagulants. Formally contra-indicated if suffering from a gastric or duodenal ulcer. Exercise caution in the event of cardiovascular pathologies or diabetes. Not recommended if pregnant or breastfeeding.

This product cannot replace a balanced diet. If you are receiving medical treatment you should take advice from your doctor. For adult use only. Keep out of the reach of children.
