| Gut flora are in a fragile bacterial balance which can be adversely affected following diarrhoea, colitis or the taking of antibiotics. Lactobacillus acidophilus, a natural guest in the human stomach, intestine and colon, helps to improve the microbial balance of the digestive tract. This probiotic (non-pathogenic living micro- organism) guards against and treats infections. It particularly attacks Helicobacter pilori, a bacteria responsible for gastric complaints (and, in the long term, ulcers, even cancers of the stomach) ...but also chronic headaches! Finally, through its enzymatic action, it reduces acidity in the digestive tract, treats lactase deficiences and plays a part in the intestinal absorption of cholesterol, where it contributes to lowering its levels. |

Lactobacillus acidophilus is a probiotic -- live, non-pathogenic -- microorganism, in this case a lactic bacillus. It is a natural host in the human stomach, but also in the large intestine, where it is a fundamental reaction axis for various pathologies, and it is considered one of the most efficient intestinal hygiene products.
This microorganism contributes to the improvement of the microbial balance of the digestive tract. Since it facilitates the balance of the intestinal flora, it guarantees at the same time protection against infections. It has also been demonstrated that the enzymatic activity of lactobacillus reduces the digestive tract's acidity. Moreover, lactobacillus completes the action of enzymes that are also present in the intestine and enables the treatment of lactase deficiencies.
Yet there is more to tell about lactobacillus. It plays a recognized role in the intestinal absorption of cholesterol, reducing cholesterol levels and, thus, the risk of cardiovascular disorders. It permits the treatment of certain intestinal problems, especially of diarrhea caused by antibiotic therapy. Last but not least, the clinical improvement of patients suffering from hepatic encephalopathies who undergo lactobacillus treatment is a proven fact.
Its anti-infection properties are equally impressive. Especially with regard to Helibacter pilori, a bacillus responsible for gastric diseases, and (at an early enough stage) for ulcers, even stomach cancers. Helibacter pilori has also been implicated in many other diseases that compromise the immune system, the cardiovascular system and the skin. Finally, probably 20% of sufferers from chronic migraine are infected with helibacter pilori. In this latter case, studies show that patients who undergo lactobacillus treatment for a couple of months later suffer much less from headaches and tolerate them much more easily than others who have undergone a classic treatment protocol. |
